A Time to Reminisce: Wedding Memories and Fashion through the Years

On Wednesday 13th April 2016, Prospect Private Nursing Home held 'An evening of Wedding Nostalgia.' The idea behind the event was to reminisce with residents, family and friends about how fashion, styles and costs have evolved over the decades.

Fashion items were on show from 1953 up to the present day. One of the residents even modelled the outfit she wore to her daughter's wedding 37 years ago!

In total, 22 Brides and Bridesmaids dresses were modelled along with pageboy and flower girl outfits, and dapper grooms in their smart attire.

The event was a fun evening, especially when costs were compared. One receipt from the 1970's showed the cost per guest at only 1.50 at the local Tullyglass House Hotel in Ballymena, with a jug of diluted orange costing an extra 30p per jug! It's clear to see that times have certainly changed over the last 60 years!

Our nostalgic evening concluded with a light supper of tea and coffee with generous helpings of delicious wedding cake, homemade heart shaped shortbread and much chatter about many happy times shared in days gone by. Family and friends attending the event also made generous donations to Motor Neurone Disease Association NI, a charity which lies close to the hearts of staff at Prospect.

Liz Ross, Nurse Manager concluded that "overall the evening was a huge success and the teamwork and effort behind the event was certainly appreciated by the many people in attendance".

Various other events have taken place and more are scheduled to happen in the next few months from visiting choirs and gospel speakers to dance nights and ice cream treats. Residents are also looking forward to celebrating Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday with a tea party.
